The cocoanut originated in ancient Papua, which included tho island continent of New Guinea. From there the eastward current during the monsoon carried it through the Straits of Malacca into the Bay of Bengal, and primitive man brought it over to the shores of India. So old is the cocoanut in India that tho Arabs from early times called it the Indian nut. To-day the cocoanut 13 the most important economic product of the tropics.
