FIVE HUNDRED ITALIANS REPORTED KILLED Received Friday, 1.15 a.m. ATHENS, Oct. 31. According to information from the Dodecanese, British warships shelled the island of Scarpento, destroying the wireless station and barracks. The Italians were surprised while sleeping. It is stated that only 200 of the 700 who were under fire escaped. The dead were hurriedly buried in a ditch. An Athens communique states: “Our forces on the Epirus front halted various enemy columns and maintained their positions all day yesterday after a lignt withdrawal of advanced sections according to pre-arranged plans. Bands of irregulars co-operated with the enemy. The remainder of the front is calm.
