Awapuni Track Work

RAN GITIKEI CANDIDATES GALLOP GOING WAS GOOD FOR FINAL TRIALS Awapuni horses engaged at the Rangitikei meeting on Saturday were given their fiflftl gallops this morning under favourable conditions. The weather was chilly but the going, with the flags on the outside of the course proper, was surprisingly good. The programme was not a heavy one. Aurora's Star (W. J. Broughton) galloped seven, picking up Waimutu (J. Williamson) approaching the six. Aurora’s Star began well and she reached the three in 55 3-5. They continued smoothly together and the full distance was covered in 1.36, the last three in just over 40. Wings of Song, who looks to be none the worse for his race at the Waverley meeting, was given easy pace work on No. 2 grass. Others let off with light tasks were Nigger Boy, Royal Crest and Princess Merling. Royal Sign (Morris) sprinted five in I.Bs, the last three in 40; Newbury Queen (Broughton) was against the bit over five in 1.13; Star Zone, who has been working well, stretched out down the straight; Rhodes and Roso Acre, with light boys up, covered the last three of six in 40, both going well; and i Anita Foe did littlo better than threeI quarter pace over six. j Selkirk (Morris) and Half Crown j (Broughton) kept together over four, j tho last three in 40 2-5, and Gold Bridge J (Morris), worked effortlessly over five iu 1.11 1-5. Gold Bridge is to start in the Amateur ridei's’ event at Bulls. Tau-Uru (C. L. Bowx-y) and Wildfire (S. Waddell), two Trial Stakes candidates, sprinted five, being together at tho finish after taking 1.95, tho last three in a fraction over 40. Du Maurier (light boy) worked well over seven, coming homo from the five in 1.9. Brazil (Ireland), an acceptor for the hurdles, worked with plenty of dash over fivo in better than 1.9. Old Bill (M. Bowden), looking improved as a result of the race he had at Trentham, galloped six, the last three in 1.9. Golden Moon worked easily over four, and All Quiet (G. R. Tattersail) was kept up to her work to cover five in I.Bs. It is probable she will be ridden by Bowden at Bulls. Sir Rabbi (Morris) and Colerica (Tattersall) were together and going well at the end of four in 55, breaking 40 for the last three. Laughing Duchess (Miss White) gave a good exhibition in a schooling effort over four hurdles, and Kincora (P. Rae) and Corroboree (Miss White) gave every satisfaction in a similar task. Riding engagements announced for Rangitikei are as under:— B. H. Morris: Royal Sign, Royal Crest, or Princess Merling, Little Robin. W. J. Broughton: Sunny Dale, Valiant Lady, Aurora’s Star, Black Robe. W. J. Mudford: Waimutu. J. Williamson: Du Maurier. Darcy Redstone, who has been riding well lately, went to Riccarton on Wednesday. G.
