Gifts of Food far Persons in Britain

CONDITIONS FOR SENDING REVIEWED Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Oct. 30. Recent advices from the United Kingdom Ministry of Food indicated that the conditions relating to the receipt of gifts of food from persons abroad had been reviewed, said lion. Walter Nash in a statement this evening. In accordance with this recent advice, the

New Zealand conditions governing the sending of gifts of food to residents in tho United Kingdom had been determined as follows: General permission is given for the despatch by parcel post of bona fide unsolicited gifts of any type of food suitable for transmission bj' parcel post from private individuals in New Zeaalnd to members of the New Zealand or other British forces overseas and to private persons residing in the United Kingdom. Permission cannot be granted for export to private persons in the United Kingdom of quantities of any foodstuffs beyond the weight limit for parcel post. Where well-wishers in New Zealand desire to send quantities of foodstuffs in excess of the weight limit for-parcel post, the following conditions laid down by the United Kingdom Ministry of Food must be complied with; such large quantities of foodstuffs must not include rationed foods and tho donors must first arrange for somo responsible organisation, formed for charitable or other similar purposes in the United Kingdom, to be the recipient of such gifts. The recipient must then apply to' the United Kingdom Ministry of Food for a license to import, and the recipient organisation will be required to give an undertaking that the goods will be consumed within the organisation. In addition, application for permission to export such larger quantities of foodstuffs must be made in accordance with the provisions of the Export Prohibition Emergency Regulations, 1939, to the Collector of Customs at the intended port of shipment in New Zealand, said Mr. Nash. Each application would be considered on its merits, taking into account such matters as the availability of shipping space and the kind of food.
