Imprisonment for Desertion
Per Pres.} Association. WELLINGTON. Sept. 27. A sentence of six weeks’ imprisonment with hard labour was imposed by the magistrate, Mr. G. L. Stout, on George Norman, aged 37, a seaman and fireman, for desertion from an overseas ship. The company representative said that the ship was a food ship loading for the United Kingdom, and he suggested that desertions from such ships in certain cases could cause serious embarrassment to the whole community.
