Dairy Workers Object To Extension of Hours

“BLOW WE ARE NOT LIKELY TO FORGET" At the annual meeting of tho Wellington branch of the New Zealand Dairy Factory and Related Trades Employees’ Industrial Union of Workers held in Palmerston North last evening, the following resolution was carried unanimously:— That this meeting of members of the New Zealand Dairy Factories and Related Trades Employees * Union (Wellington branch) records an emphatic protest at tho extension of the 52-hour period in cheese factories from 22 to a maximum of 43 weeks, which will not help in any way to produce the extra 15,000 tons of cheese required. The recent order will do nothing except to compel workers (in those factories that work under the order) to work all hours in excess of 44 hours for Is 3d per h&ur, and all hours in excess of 38 hours for 9d per hour. The overwhelming weight of evidence given before tho Industrial Emergency Committee was in favour of tho workers, but tho Minister of Labour with the agreement of socallcd representatives of Labour appointed to that committee has seen fit to deal the dairy workers a blow we are not likely to forget.
