Horses for Foxton

AWAPUNI STABLES ABE WELL REPRESENTED FINAL GALLOPS AND BIDING ENGAGEMENTS There were light showers at Awapuni when torses engaged at Foxton were given their final trials, and the going, with the flags forty feet out, was slow but in good order. The centre has four acceptors for the Carnarvon Handicap and all of them i were galloped. Gaelic Song (S. Anderson) looking none the worse for the race she had at MartOfi, galloped seven with Aurora’s Star (E, Temperton) and they had something in reserve at, the finish after running the distance in 1.42 2-5. Colonel Bogey (W. J. Broughton) was clear Old Surrey (H. JohnStOne) at the end of a mile in 1.51 \ after Old Surrey, who is improving quickly, had set the pace to the three reached in 1.8 3-5. Colonel Bogey went particularly well. The Buzzer and Nigger Boy will represent Awapuni in the open sprint. The Buzzer (D. W. Cetewayo took time to settle down but he was going well as the four, reached in 56, and he was just in front at the post, the full distance taking them 1.30 'and the last three 43.

| Nigger Boy (S. Anderson) had Social Credit (Tempertou) a 3 a. companion over five but his saddle slipped and he was pulled up half way down the straight, Social Credit going on nicely to record 1.8 2-5.

Sceptre (R. B. Ireland) worked a mite on her own and she finished smoothly to complete in 1.53 2-5. She ran a good race at Marton and the outing does not appear to have done her any harm. There are five Awapuni horses in the Trial Stakes. They are Social Credit, Courting, Sweet Anne, Sir Kabbi and Victoire. Sweet Anne (G. R. Tattersall) worked nicely over three in 39 4-5 and Sir Rabbi (Morris) was finishing strongly after five in 1.10 2-5, the last three in 41 2-5.

In the Hurdles there are Foxinna and Brazil. Foxiana made no mistakes at Marton and it is possible he will be all the better for the race. With Morris up he worked over six with Rhodes (P. Jarvis) in 1.27 3-5, keeping an even pace throughout. Brazil (Ireland) galloped a mile with Raeburn. (F. Buchanan) and both wero going well at the finish after taking 1.53 2-5, the last three in 44 4-5. Silver Shekel (Tattcrsall) and Newbury Queen (Broughton) sprinted three iu 39 1-5, and they were going easily at the finish. Silver Shekel has been accepted for two races at Foxton. Kotua, Squeers, Last Acre, Selkirk and Sporting Luck are in the back seven. Kotua was given a working gallop, and Squeers (Johnstone) ran seven in 1.395. Last Acre (C. Bowry) went with Don Quex (H. K. Searle), n mile in 1.55, the last three in 42 2-5; Skyway, three in 43.

Entered for the Juvenile Handicap on the second day as the stylish filly, Flying Spray. “RUNS LIKE TWO HORSES’* Difference of opinion makes racing. Difference of opinion also exists amongst handicappers. In the August Handicap, run on the last day of the Grand National meeting, Thermidor carried 9.8 and Combat 8.0. In the Munro Handicap Thermidor meets Combat on 131 b. better terms. The I trouble about Combat is that he runs like two horses, states “Sentinel ” of the Otago Daily Times. CLASH OF DATES The Southland Racing Club has lodged a protest against, the Forbury Park Trotting Club bei.ng granted No vember 23 and 25 for its spring meeting, which clashes with the Southland Racing Club’s spring meeting on No vember 23. The Forbury Club was originally granted November 28 and 30 for its spring meeting and the South land Club November 23. Since it has been announced that the King’s Birthday will be observed on November 25 the Forbury Club has applied to the Trotting Conference for a. transfer of dates to November 23 and 25.
