Foxton

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Old Pupils’ Association

The Masonic Hall was the centre of attraction on the occasion of a dance, organised by the Foxton High School Obi Pupils’ Association, in aid of members serving overseas. The hall was filled to capacity, there being present, in addition *to local patrons, dancers from Palmerston North, Levin, Shannon, Oroua Downs and the surrounding district. There was also a representative gathering $f men of the Army and Air Force. Committee members officiated as M.C.s. Extra dance numbers were played by Mr. Perry and the winners of prizes for novelty dances were: Monte Waltz, Miss N. Thompson and Mr. A. Fletcher; Lucky Gay Gordons, Miss lv. Bergiu and Mr. Shailer. Supper was served by the members of the committee after which dancing was resumed and continued to a late hour. Both socially and financially, the dance uas successful and the thanks of the Association are extended to all those who assisted in any way, particularly the ladies for tbeir assistance with the supper, and Messn*. C. R. Tutty and W. D. Neville. The committee responsible for the organisation of the dance comprised Misses J. Marriott, V. Button, J. Robinson, N. Reid, A. Robinson, M. Thynne (secretary), and Messrs. D. Newton (president), J. Purcell, N. Walls, D. Speirs, A. McArtney, D. Hussey and D. Ell wood. Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Maidens, of Pahiatua, spent the week-end with Mrs. Maidens’ parents, Air. and Airs. D. R. Barron, of Robinson Street.

Week-end visitors to Foxton were Mr. and Mrs. W. Anderson and Alaster Donald Andersou, of Otaki, who were

the guests of Mrs. Anderson’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Easton, of Norbiton Hoad. Parcels Packed for Soldiers The pupils of Forms I and II of the Foxton District High School recently conducted a competition for a breakfast set and with tho proceeds they were able to pack and dispatch thirty parcels to local men who were serving both overseas and in JS'ew Zealand. Each parcel consisted of a cake, two slabs of chocolate and a khaki handkerchief and the tins were soldered by Mr. I O’Leary gratis, which was much appreciated.
