Pointing to the savings to be made by installing an up-to-date chip crusher at last evening’s meeting of the Fcilding Borough Council, the Mayor said that had a new plant been available £6U would have been saved on the 450 cubic yards of chips crushed last month. Cr. H. Dewe supported this opinion, remarking that the saving would have been £67 10s. In connection with the decision of the Feilding Borough Council to adopt the Country Library Service, it was report ed at last evening’s meeting of the council that arrangements were in hand for tho changeover to take effect from October 1. The librarian (Mr. R. Wood) is at present in Wellington obtaining data as to the procedure to be followed with the introduction of the Last evening’s meeting of the Feeding Borough Council decided to approach the Main Highways Board for approval of a loan of £9OO with which to purchase a new metal crushing plant. Reports on the position regarding the plant were considered by tho works committee of the council which recommended that action be taken to secure new machinery to cope with the require meats of the borough. With a view to improving the Hobson Street railway level crossing it was suggested by Cr. H. J. Dewe at last evening’s meeting of the Feilding Borough Council that the Railway Department might be approached to set back the railway fence on the Aorangi Street*Hobson Street corner. Councillors generally appreciated the advantages of this improvement and it was agreed to make tho suggestion to the Railway Department. Discussing the rates to be levied for the current year at last evening’s meeting of tho Feilding Borough Council, tho Mayor (Mr. T. L. Seddon) stated that, with the exception of a .sum of £470 for interest and sinking fund foi tho £6OOO loading Joan, the amount to be collected would be the same as las; year. While there would be individual variations in the new rate demands the amount budgeted for showed no variation beyond the exception indicated.
