Family Doctor Benefit

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE NOT YET OFFERED Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Feb. 21. A statement that the terms and conditions of service of the family doctor benefit provided for in the Social Security Act had never been offered to the doctors was made by Dr. D. G. McMillan, M.P., when speaking at a public meeting at Green Island tonight. Dr. McMillan said it was premature lo blame the doctors for n: . working the benefit, as the conditions of service had not been offered to them. He added that it was unfair to condemn the rank and file of the medical profession for not accepting what had not been offered to them. Their spokesman had certainly said they would not work the service, but they had said the same about the maternity benefit, which they were working to-day. As representatives anxious to get the Government to offer the best terms, the spokesmen of the medical profession could be excused for being over-dogmatic and should not be taken too seriously.
