Pride in the Achilles
CABLE SENT TO CBEW WELLINGTON, Dec. 15. The Governor-General has eent the following message to tho Secretary of State for the Dominions in connection with the naval battle off the Tlatc River:— “Kindly ask the Admiralty to convey to Captain Parry and all ranks and ratings of tho Achilles tho most cordial congratulations of tho Government and people of New Zealand on the heroic part which they played in tho defeat of tho Admiral Grai Spee. “The bravery and tenacity which they displayed in lighting a ship armed with heavier guns arc worthy of the highest traditions of the Brii, ish Navy.’* In an interview to-day, the Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, said: “I should liko to express, on behalf of the Government and people, the admiration New Zealanders feei, and to offer heartiest congratulations to Captain Parry and the complement of the Achilles.”
