Horses for Feilding

SEMI-FINAL GALLOPS AT AWAPUNI PLENTY OF FAST WORK ON SATURDAY The course proper was in wonderful order for galloping at Awapuni on Saturday and the flags were out in the middle. The morning was fine and horses with engagements at Feilding attracted most interest. The best gallops of the morning were those of Laughing Lass and Disdain over five, The Bigot over a mile, and La Coquette over six. Laughing Lass (G. R. Tattersall) and Disdain (B. 11. Morris) went away from a standing start and Laughing Lass, on the inner, was half a length in trout ut the three reached in 26*. They were on terms at the home turn and there was a head between them at the finish. They ran the last three in [better than 39 and the full distance in 1.5.

The Eigot (Tattersall) and Colonel 'Bogey (D. Redstone) started from the .mile and Hunting Loro (Morris) joined [them at the six. After they had run tho first five in 1.6 Colonel Bogey dropped out and the others went on strongly to cover the last three in 41, The Bigot, who worked brilliantly, completing the journey in 1.47. Wings of Song was exercised on the plough. He looks well.

Verey Lights (C. B. Goulsbro) worked very well over five in 1.6, the last three taking 39, and Anita Foe (Temperton) was allowed to bowl along over six, the last five in 1.9.

Ronascor (H. Stewart) was just in front of Fauvette (S. Waddell) after five which took them 1.7*, the last three in 40.

The Buzzer (Morris) looking well and fresh, had Malik Kafur as a companion and they ran six in 1.22 3-5. Lt should not take long to get The Buzzer up to concert pitch.

Sleeveless (Temperton) appears to have freshened up since her last race and she sprinted five easily in 1.7, the last three in J 9.

Golden Ridge (D, B. McGregor) and Nigger Mark (W. Jenkins) galloped six in 1.22, and Israel (Goulsbro) was not under pressure during five which took 1.10 2-5.

Classform (H. Stewart) just beat Tidcwaiter (E. Stewart) over five in 1.7 2-5 but neither was ridden out. They were followed by Gold Chase (McGregor) who galloped brilliantly to run five in 1.6 1-5. Gold Chase looks particularly well. La Coquette, with a light boy up, maintained an oven pace during six which took her 1.20*. It was her best effort for somo considerable time.

Beaupartir (Ireland) on the plough was kept to even time over six, and Raeburn, who went out and away quietly, was exercised.

Alchemic (Morris) moved smoothly to run half a mile in 52, breaking 39 for the last three. He can gallop and it will not surprise if he makes a profitable return to racing. Florence Mills (Bowden) was given a working gallop over five which took her 1.10 2-5, and Oragon and Lambourn were not required to do better than even time over four. Old Bill (Bowden), looking a picture, sprinted an easy three on tho plough, not being after time.

In one of the last gallops before the breakfast interval an Heroic filly (Morris) from L. G. Morris’s stable, surprised by running half a mile in 52. It was an attractive effort and she was clear of Squeers (Rae) at the finish.
