Chewing Gum Factory To Start in Auckland
CAPITAL OF £IOO,OOO i Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Nov. 24. Chewing gum is shortly to be manufactured in Auckland on a large scale. This will be undertaken by a new private company which has been formed a capital of £IOO,OOO. The company is called AVrigley Products (New Zealand) Limited. The whole of tho capital, which is in shares of £lO each, has been subscribed by American interests. The subscribers are: AVilliani AVrigley juD. Company, Chicago, 9997 shares: P. K. AVrigley, AV. H. Stanley, and J. C. Cox, of Chicago, one share each. The company will occupy premises in the city.
Mr. B. E. AA’rigley, jun., of Chicago, who is at present visiting Auckland, said the company had been formed because of the restrictions upon the import of chewing gum into New Zealand. Jn the past supplies had come from th* American company’s Australian factory. The new Auckland factory, Mr. AVrigley continued, would*manufacture chewing gum for the whole of the Dominion. Most of the raw materials would be bought here, although chicle would have to be imported from over
The factory, which would employ 15 to 20 hands, would be in production at the end of February or the beginning of March of next year.
