Girls’ Inter-house Snorts

(To the Editor.) Sir, —To-morrow the girls' inter-house sports 'will be held at tlie Showgrounds, and, having been connected with this wonderful organisation for some years, I have wondered lately if the Palmerston North public realise what a splendid afternoon's entertainment is provided by these young women of our business firms. Last night I had the privilege of being present at a practice of one of the teams which is preparing for Saturday's display. It was to me a real eye -opener from the point of view of what these young ladies are prepared to do and give in the way of time and effort to perfect themselves in the team work required for such a display. For three hours these girls allowed themselves to be marched, drilled, organised for games and criticised and stormed at by their instructor, all for the sake of their team and the hope that they would perform creditably in the competition ■ for the Chamber of Commerce shield. Tho stage of perfection that these girls displayed in their movements, and the remarkable snap and zip of their team work in games, physical drill and marching was a revelation. As an organiser of girls' inter-house sports for somo years I can easily say that if the team I saw on Wednesday night is an example of the quality of the teams taking part, then those who attend these sports can bo prepared to see some of the finest inter-house team work that it is possiblo to see in New Zealand. I understand that the spores to be held in the afternoon at the Showgrounds demands a very modest- entrance fee to tho grounds and the stands are free, and I would like to rouso tho enthusiasm of tho Palmerston North public to give these girls the support they so richly deserve. When one can say the same entertainment at Napier can attract fivo to ten thousand, I Jreel it is not too much to ask Palmerston North to measure up to the standard of patronage accorded by the Napier public.—l am, etc., W. M. SEXTON.
