GOING WAS EXCELLENT AFTER RAIN j AUCKAND, Nov. 23. 3 Heavy rain fell at tho commencement • of the final gallops at Ellerslie this ) morning, but it cleared before work was resumed after the breakfast interval. > Tho course proper, on which the poles were out 40ft., was used for fast work and the going was excellent. Among the horses to impress were Phalerou, Maioro and Bronze Fire over ! half a mile, Biddy Girl over five fur- ) longs, and Ivy Willonyx over a round. Silver Qucx finished clear of Wair tarma at the conclusion of five furlongs run in 1.6 1-5, tho first furlong taking 12 * 3-ssec. Bronze Fire worked better than usual while traversing half a mile in 51 2-ssec., tho last three furlongs in ' | 39 2-sscc. I Trevace was kept up to his work to * finish in front of British Talent, doing J five furlongs in I.C and the last halfmile in 52 3-ssec. Pern and Silver Stick were compan--1 ions over a mile run in 1.47 3-5. They went fast early, the first half-mile being * covered in 51sec., but they were eased » . right up over the last furlong. The best half-mile was credited to I Phaleron, who hud a bit in reserve after 1 recording 51 l-ssec. This colt Ims done 5 well since winning at Avondale. With Royal Huntress to bring them i home over tho last seven furlongs in 1.34 3-5, Ivy Willonyx and Royal Appellant • covered a round in 2.8. Ivy Willonyx finished clear of the other pair, though r Royal Appellant was doing his work in good style. Spinning Wheel, Cintracc t and Whenua were in that order at the end of seven furlongs, which Spinning i Wheel ran in 1.33. Cintraco got soverai - lengths the best of tho start, but Spini ning Wheel beat him easily, her time | being 1.34. i : Biddy Girl impressed by finishing clear • of Pasture over five furlongs in 1.4 2-5, i which was tho best of the morning over * the distance. Biddy Girl ran her last • three furlongs in 39sec. • j Miss Appellant came home from tho I six-furlong post in 1.20 2-5 without be* r ing seriously bustled. 3 Sebrof ran two furlongs in 25 4-ssec., t and continued on to complete five in 1.6. Astaire, who has been suffering from a severe attack of strangles, has now made a good recovery, but, having lost a lot of condition, it will be some time before ho can bo put into serious work.
