EXCESS OF WITHDRAWALS More money has been drawn out of the Post Office Savhngs Banks than has been paid in durhng the first half of this financial year, 1939-1940. The returns, as published in the Abstract of Statistics, are as follows: 6 mos., 1939. 6 mos., 1938. £ £ Deposits .... 13,0i1,19*4 16,701,908 Withdrawals 17,194,489 16,029,751 The excess of withdrawals in 1939 was £4,183,295, but for 1938 the deposits exceeded withdrawals by £672,157. There has been a continuous excess of withdrawals over deposits since September, 1938, the aggregate for the 13 months’ period amounting to £9,149,144. The trustee savings banks also show less paid in than was drawn out for the six months in review, withdrawajs exceeding deposits by £365,719, whereas the deposits for the same period last year were £230,832 moire than was takeif out.
