Friday the 13th Unlucky for U-Boats

THREE DESTROYED (British Official Wireless) (Received 14, 12.30 p.m.) RUGBY, Oct. 13. The Admiralty announce that Friday the thirteenth proved an unlucky day for U-boats, three having been destroyed. Hunting craft were able to rescue some of the survivors. It is announced that the steamer Heronspool has been attacked by a U-boat. The crew are reported to be all safe on an American ship. The Heronspool, which is a ship of 5202 tons gross, is the second ship to be sunk thi s week. The President Harding radioed that she had rescued the crew of 36 of the Heronspool off the Irish coast while proceeding to the aid of the French tanker W. Emile Miquet, whose S.O.S. the President Harding intercepted. She found the tanker in flames and the crew missing. It is announced from London that the ten-year-old French cruiser Toru d’Auvergne, caught fire and blew up at Cara Blauca, a port of Morocco, last month. Between 100 and 200 of the crew were killed.
