New Zealander Safe After Ordeal in Bush
TAKEN TO HOSPITAL LOST IN BLUE MOUNTAINS SINCE MONDAY United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. SYDNEY, August 5. Mr Leon Levy, aged 30, a visitor from New Zealand, who had been lost in Jamieson Valley, Blue Mountains, since Monday, found his way to a farmhouse about ten miles from Wentworth Falls and collapsed on the doorstep. Later he was brought on horseback up the bridle track to Wentworth Falls and was taken to hospital in a serious condition. lie had existed solely on rainwater for four days, and is weak and emaciated.
Mr Levy said he became lost when (trying to find his way back to Kaitoomba oil Monday afternoon, and ever fcmee had wandered about in the wild push. His clothing was soaked by heavy train and torn to ribbons by brambles, tie frequently lost his footing and slid down precipitous ravines. Early yesterday, when he was weak from hunger, he stumbled into a fence. He followed this to a farm.
He spent Wednesday night in driving pain clutching a cliff-face with a 50foot drop below him. Doctors think that Mr Levy will soon recover, but his feet and hands are in a badly lacerated and swollen staff*
Mr Leon Levy, aged 30, of Wellington, |s a brother of Mrs Emden, of 2 Staunton Avenue, and a cousin of Dr. Louis Levy, also of Wellington. Mr Leon Levy, Who is a manufacturer’s agent and town traveller, left Wellington on May 13 in order to spend some six months in Australia, combining business with pleasure. Mr Levy is unmarried, and is fairly well known in Wellington through his business and other connections.
