Axis Does Not Want Japanese Alliance
FEELING IN ROME TOKIO CABINET RESISTS ARMY PROMPTINGS LONDON, Aug. 4. The Rome correspondent of the Times says that the Italian press almost ignored the Japanese Am< bassadors ’ conference, indicating that an alliance with Japan is no longer desired, as, while it was in the interest of Italy and Germany for Japan to become embroiled with England and France, they have no desire to run the risk of becoming embroiled in war as Japan’s allies at a moment which would not suit them.
If tho alliance is concluded, the correspondent adds, it will havo plenty of loopholes to cave tho Italian and German Powers from being too far committed.
Tho British United Press correspondent at Tokio says that the Japanese Government, despite tho Ambassadors’ action, stands by its previous decision to undertake only limited commitments. A tussle on this issue with the army leaders is inevitable.
