PRIMARY SCHOOL REPRESENTATIVE RUGBY

Win for Manawatu TRIAL AGAINST HOROWHENUA 'With the primary school quadrangu lar tourneys to be played at the middle of the month, the representative trial Rugby match played at Palmerston North on Saturday morning between Manawatu and Horowhenua gave tho selectors of the sides a good chance to watch their players in action against their own class. The game was -won by Manawatu by four tries, the last one being converted, to three tries, the deciding points being secured shortly before the final whistle. For Manawatu the best of the back division was W. Callaghan, of Marist Brothers, who crossed twice. Hunt at centre was quite useful. In the forwards O’Connor, Kelly and Houghton stood out from the rest. J. Neylon, of Otaki, a very determined runner, played quite a good game for Horowhenua on the wing. With E. Jacobs, the small half, he was the best of the backs. In the forwards those who deserved mention were Sperenga, the best in his side, Ward, Chester and McMinn. The general run of play was not particularly outstanding as is the case when changes are being made in the arrangement of the sides. There were, however, some sparkling examples of individual play. Both sets of backs lacked penetrative ability, but the forwards toiled away liko veterans. Those who scored for Manawatu were Kelly, W. Callaghan (2) and Hunt. Kelly converted once. For Horowhenua J. Neylon (2) and Chester secured tries. The referee was Mr. C. T. Wildsmith.
