Tho formal resolution to demand this money, £4950, was made on the motion of the chairman. Special Hospital Rato With regard to tho application of the Dannevirke Hospital Board to have a special rate struck for the institution the finance committee’s recommendation: “That, after a full inquiry, it is impossible at present to know tho amount of current that will be used in tho new building and that tho question be held over until such time as it was possible to ascertain tho current requirements," was carried. In explanation, Mr. Grainger added that tho hospital's consumption at present was varying considerably, there being an increase of 10,000 units in a year. Most of the consumption was for light. They wero anxious to meet tho Hospital Board's request, but at present a rate satisfactory to the Power Board could not bo designed without an estimate of the power required. He undertook to have the question reviewed when the new hospital buildings came into use. Mr. England remarked that lie fully appreciated the position. Ho was glad that tho Hospital Board's request had not been turned down.

In reply to Mr. England, tho engineer said progress was being made with tho new line to the hospital but the gang was working under difficulties on swampy ground. Mr. Harding requested that the finance committee should again consider the question of installing a wireless set in the engineer’s car to detect line faults, as he considered it would effect economy. This was agreed to.
