Obituary

MR. JOHN BIELSKI, OF KAREWAREWA. The news of the passing on Saturday last at tho Palmerston North Public Hospital of Mr. John Biclski was roceived with sincere regret by his relatives and many friends of the Rangiwahia district. Aged 55 years, the lute Mr. Bielski was born at Halcombe, being the second son of the lato Mr. and Mrs. Martin Bielski. Coming to the district at tho age of two years-with his parents, he grew' up, to lator shoulder the burdens that were tho lot of tho early farmers. In his youth ho volunteered for service in tho South African War, serving with the 7th Contingent, and on returning to New Zealand, was allotted 319 acres of land under tho Government scheme. Alter farming for a period he disposed of his property, and then took up land successfully at Marton, Kawhatau, and finally at Karewarewa, w r here ho remained a practical farmer until the time of his passing Hi 3 marriage took place at Karewarewa to Miss Ellen Agnes Smith, there being four daughters of the marriage who, with their mother, are left to mourn the loss of a beloved father and husband. The daughters are Mesdames T. Roache and A. Wood and Misses Eva and Joyce Bielski. There are three grandchildren. The brothers are Messrs Frank Bielski (Palmerston North), and Tom Bielski (Rangiwahia), the three sisters being Mesdames Temperley (Feildiug), Bell (Auckland) and liourke (Rangiwahia). The funeral, which took place at Rangiwahia on Monday last, was attended by a large assemblage of relatives and friends who journeyed to pay their last respects to the gentleman ’i memory and to convey sympathy to tho bereaved family. Prior to the cortege leaving St. Anne's Catholic Church, Father Doolaghty, of Taihape, conducted Requiem Mass and later at the cemetery, tho Committal Service. The pall-bearers were Messrs T. Bielski, F. Bielski (brothers), T. Roache, A. Wood (sons-in-law), J. Bourke (nephew) and M. Thompson. Among tho many beautiful floral tributes received was ono from the president and members of the Women's Division of tho Farmers' Union, Rangiw'ahia.
