Mr. S. E. Langstone, secretarymanager of the Auckland St. John Ambulance Association, sailed by the Mariposa for San Francisco.
Mr. R. J. McMillan, of Wellington lias been appointed to a position as engineering assistant with the Palmers ton North City Council.
Mr. Neville Wright, liaison officer in London of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, was the weekend guest of Trofcssor and Mrs. W. Eiddet.
Dr. J. P. Colclough, consulting engineer who has been examining the prospects of tho Onekaka ironworks, left by the Mariposa which sailed for San Francisco yesterday. Mr. H. L. Hume, civil engineer, of Wellington, left by the Mariposa for San Francisco on a Commonwealth Trust Service Scholarship to spend two years in the United States.
Rev. W. P. Rankin, formerly Presbyterian minister at New Lynn, has been appointed to the charge of Huntly in succession to the Rev, J. J. Heard, who was recently transferred to Te Puke. Mr. G. Mutch, who passed away re-
cently, was for 30 years an employee of the Palmerston North City Council. At its meeting last night, the council recorded its sympathy with the relatives of deceased.
Dr. J. F. Staton, examiner of the Royal Academy Schools of Music, London, has arrived at Auckland by the Niagara from Vancouver. Dr. Staton will conduct examinations in New Zealand until December.
Mr. T. M. N. Rodgers was appointed to represent the Automobile Association (Manawatu) at an executive meeting of the North Island Motor Union to be held in Palmerston North shortly by the association at its meeting last evening.
Mr. J. T. J. Heat ley, of Palmerston North, after a serious illness, is reported to be making progress toward recovery. At last evening’s meeting of the City Council, of which he is a member, gratificatoin was expressed at tho news and hopes expressed that the progress made would continue.
Congratulations to Mr. G. R. Colling, of Palmerston North, on having, with the highest marks of all candidates, won the New Zealand Cable Makers’ Gold Medal in the recent electrical wiremen’s examination, were extended at last evening’s meeting of the Palmerston North City Council which Mr. Colling attended for tho purpose of receiving the award at the hands of the Mayor (Air. A. E. Mansford.) Air. Colling secured 91 marks out of 100. Sir Stenson Cooke, secretary of the Automobile Association (England) wrote to last evening’s meeting of the Automobile Association (Manawatu) advising that he had had the pleasure of renewing personal acquaintances with Mr. D. Collis, a member of the association’s committee. Air. Collis is at present in England on holiday.
