Kermadecs Annexed. Friday was the anniversary of what might bo termed New Zealand's first colonising venture. On July 2, 1887, the Kcrinadec group of islands was annexed to the Crown, and has since belonged to New Zealand. The islands are an uninhabited group six hundred miles to the north-east of the Dominion and include Sunday, Macaulay, L’Espcrance and Curtis Islands. Tbo islands have assumed new importance with the development of aviation and I two years ago the Government sent a party to the Kermadecs to make preliminary investigations with a view to the establishment of a radio and meteorological station.
