Difficulties With Books

TAMAKI PROPOSAL FOR FARMERS CENTRAL BUREAU UNDER COMPANY CONTROL A proposal to establish a bookkeeping service for suppliers was referred to the directorate for consideration at the annual meeting of the Tamaki Dairy Company yesterday. Mr. G. Gillam, making the suggestion, said that times changed rapidly and the difficulties of bookkeeping for farmers were to-day greater than even two years ago. Social security and income tax returns, ho said, could be more easily handled by a trained staff and he felt that the principle of the former legislation had come to stay. Ho suggested a system of tabulation and accounting so that the necessary information could bo supplied without trouble when necessary. The average furmer, he said, knew little of anything but farms, and stated that a professional man could keep a better check on tax exemptions than an amateur. The cost for such a scheme would be comparatively small, a minimum charge perhaps one-third of what an accountant in private practise might charge. Mr. A. O. Menefy seconded the recommendation to the directorate, which was carried, the chairman, Mr. A. H. Hansen, remarking that he had sought tho opinion of the company’s auditor who had approved the idea of a central bureau.

Mr. A. Sturrock said such a scheme would have to have the support of all shareholders and suppliers, and Mr. G. Paterson (secretary) raised the question of tho amount of work that had to bo done.

Replying to Mr. T. Telford, Mr. Hansen said the directors could consider letting the work as a contract to a private practitioner.
