A squad of tho Papal Gendarmerie, under the command of an officer, has been allotted special duty as Customs guards in tho Vatican City. Their duty is to supervise tho traffic leaving the precints and to casjure that there is no smuggling out of foreign goods which aro imported for the use of the Vatican population and thus avoid tho duty levied by the Italian Government.
