BUNNYTHORPE Mrs. Jackson presided over a very fair attendance of members at the July meeting, which was the first W.I. meeting held in the new hall. Apologies were received from Mrs. McMillan and Mrs. Donald. Another institute baby, Janice Lenva Bicknell, was presented with a money-box containing contributions from members. The gold thread talk given by Mrs. Faulkner was of a camping tour of the northern part of the South Island. Leaving Picton by car, Mrs. Faulkner, with the aid of map, took her listeners through Blenheim, Christchurch, overland to the West Coast, Franz Josef Glacier, Westport, Buller Gorge, thcnco to Nelson, where an interesting visit was made to tho Cawthron Institute; from there to Havelock, where a beautiful view was obtained of the Pelorous Bound, and so back to Picton aud home. The competition for the best display of vegetables was won by Mrs. Guard, Mrs. Harris 2, Mrs. Faulkuer 3; best bloom, Mrs. Armstrong 1, Miss O. Sinclair 2. An instructive demonstration was given by Mrs. Cutteu on brass work, the finished article being much admired. The birthday meeting next month takes the form of a social afternoon, the competition being tho best bloom and a piece of Richelieu work; hostesses will be the committee. Arrangements uro being made to hold the birthday social and dance on August 10; admission prices decided are Is 6d and 2s. Tho group meeting is to be held at Newbury on September 7 at 1 p.m., the competition being a Madeira cako (prize winner in Institute cookery book), machine-made apron of organdie and a bowl of spring flowers (to bo judged for quality of blooms and arrangements). OROUA DOWNS Mrs. Smith presided over a fair attendance on Tuesday afternoon several apologies being sent iu. The golden thread was given by Mrs. Oliver, her subject being tho famous composer Schubert. Following afternoon tea, the single girls took charge for a social afternoon, several amusing competitions being held. The winners were: Nursery rhymes, Mrs. Ray Shatter; musical, Mrs. Dench; musical items, Mrs. Hobbs. Winners of tho monthly competition, a man’s sleeveless pullover, were: Senior, Mrs. Procter 1, Mrs. Smith 2; junior, Miss D. Christensen 1, Miss J. Jarvis 2; floral, Mrs. A. Jamieson; doll competition, Miss Dickson. Hostesses for August are Mesdames Funnell, Cotton, Groom and Miss L. j Christensen. 1
