The King-Hall Letters
BRITISH OFFICIAL PATRONAGE DENIED RUGBY, July 21. The Foreign Under-Secretary, Mr R. A. Butler, was questioned in the House of Commons about the German allegations that the distribution of the “King-Hall News Letter” in Germany was being undertaken with Britain’s support, and he was asked whether he would take steps to make the truth about this known to Germany. Mr Butler replied: “Yes, and I take this opportunity of repeating the categorical denial given in the British Broadcasting Corporation's German broadcast on July 14 that Britain is in any way connected with or responsible for these letters. “Commander Stephen King-Hall himself published a letter in the Press on Wednesday last stating that it was completely untrue that he was in the pay of the Foreign Office or that the Foreign Minister, Lord Halifax had assisted him in the composition of his letters.” i,
