Farewells Begin for Duke And Duchess of Kent

LONDON, June 22. Farewells to the Duke and Duchess of Kent have begun. The first was at the Overseas League this week, when they met a number of Australians and New Zealanders at a reception in St. Andrew’s Hall at Overseas House. They were welcomed by Lord Goschen, chairman of the league, and the Duchess of Kent was presented with a basket of New' Zealand and Australian fruit and a bottle of Australian wine by Miss Cecilia Keating (Greymouth). The Duke and Duchess of Kent were given a warm welcome as they walked between two lines of a guard of honour of young women from Australia and New Zealand. Lord Goschen, wishing the Duke and Duchess “godspeed,” said they had in Australia many loyal and enthusiastic branches of the Overseas League. He read cabled greetings from the Sydney, Victorian, Western Australian, and (Queensland branches of the league. The Duke of Kent, who is president of the league, said that both he and the Duchess were looking forward very much to going to Australia, and were pleased to meet so many members of the league from Australia and from New Zealand. On their arrival they inspected a full guard of honour represented by the Overseas League Detachment of the British Red Cross Society. One of the members of the guard was Mrs. M. Clifford (Auckland). Among those present were Lieut.-Colonel E. W. Lascclles, chairman of the New Zealand Group, and Mrs. Lascelies.
