Marton To-day

Splendid Fields are Engaged SINGLE-POOL BETTING wonderfully good acceptances have been received for the Rangitikei Hunt Club's meeting at Marton to-day and an Interesting day’s racing is asured. The principal ©vent is the Hunt Cup Steeplechase, which will be decided over a 2s- - course. The open event is the seven-furlong Klddiford Handicap, which has drawn a field of highclass sprinters. The first race is timed to start at noon and the betting will be single pool. The programme will bo opened with the maiden race, for which 23 have been carded. It is a five furlong flutter and the draw at the barrier and the luck of the start will have some bearing on the result. Kaiwaka, Laughing Chief, Peach King, Valiant Lady, Gitana Lass, Kehua, Wir Crusoe and Colossal Chief have been in tho money and Dynasty and Split Second are likely improvers. Tho betting may point to Peach King, Split Second and Valiant Lady. Next is the Rose bank Hack Hurdles and the top-weight is Bing Boy, who j has not raced for some time. Aussie Ra, an interesting entry, is in receipt of 41b. Those with tho moßt recent form are Princess lsobel, Golden Memory, Helios and Tigreterrc. but Hunting Lore is a likely novice. The favourites may be Princess lsobel, Tigreterro and Golden Memory. | There is anothor good field for the Closeburn Hack Flying and Screen Star, Morning Flight, Viracious (who has recovered from a cold), Red Chief, Snigger, Guiding Light and Selkirk will all have friends and the favourites may be Screen Star, Morning Flight and Snigger. In a season w T heu steeplechase fields have sometimes been down to three or four starters, the acceptances are exceptionally good for the Hunt Cup Steeples, for which there is a list of 15. Glenvane 11.3 and Blue Tiger 11.2 are at the head of the weights, with Lactose, Count Willonyx, Lady Callaghan, Royal King and Kikiroki next. There is material for a great race without going to the lighter-weighted division. Glenvane has plenty of weight, but he is sure to run a good, honest race. Blue Tiger won at Dannevirke and tipped out at tho last fence in Hastings. Those races should have improved him. Lactose has been consistent this season and Count Willonyx can be expected to make a showing. Lady Callaghan has run good races and so has Kikiroki, while Royal King, except for covering a lot of extra ground, would have been in the money at Otaki. There may be a “surprise packet” further down, but four sure to be solidly supported are Blue Tiger, Royal King, Glonvane and Lactose. There is a fine field for the Riddiiord Handicap and Quadroon, Mataroa, Winsome Lu, Sporting Gift, Liane, Ruling Spi and Reipar give the punters a wide choice. Tho favourites may bo Quadroon, Sporting Gift and Mataroa. There are 13 acceptors for the Bracelet, for which the favourites may bo Lacan, Kohika and Gladium. The programme will be concluded with the Springrove Hack Sprint, for which the punters may prefer Liberal’s Mint, Lucullus Boy and Screen Star. Carmont caused a scene at the committee meeting of the Queensland Turf Club when his appeal to that body was unsuccessful. When the decision of dismissal was announced by tho chairman (Mr. P. J. O’Shea), Carmont called out: 44 Well, I’m out of the game for good; I won’t be coming into it again.” As tho jockey turned to leave the room, Mr. O’Shea asked him to repeat what he said, w r hereupon Carmont replied: “I’m out of the game for good; I’ve mado up my mind.
