EPSTEIN’S “ADAM”
£20,000 Paid for Right to Exhibit It LONDON, July 7. Mr Lawrence Wright, music publisher and composer, paid £20,000 tot the right to exhibit Jacob Epstein’s statue “Adam” at Blackpool for three months. The identity of the Australian purchaser is still rot revealed. The sale price is reported to be £7OOO. FA picture of the statue appears oq page 11.1 PLAYERS DEFEAT GENTLEMEN LONDON, uly 7. With their second innings score at four for 202 declared, the Players won their match against the Gentlemen by 160 runs. Gentlemen declared their first innings closed at 7 for 158, and in the second innings made 154 (Bartlett 60). In the Players’ second innings, Hutto* made 86 and Dennis Compton 70. The match between the West Indies and Yorkshire was abandoned. There was no play to-day owing to rain.
