Hides and Skins
Murray Roberts and Co. report:— “The fortnightly sale of hides and sheepskins was held with the usual buyers present. Competition, which has been keen for the past month, slackened somewhat and prices generally were slightly easier than last sale. Fullwoolled skins were fully firm, but the shorter wools showed a decline of }d to Id per lb. All weight of both cows and ox hides were 3-8 d per lb. down, but yearlings and calfskins maintained last sale's level. A small offering of tallow’ sold at tho prices ruling a fortnight ago. The range of prices is as follows: “Dry sheepskins: Halfbred, 7dtoS*d; fine Xbred, 7d to 9Jd; medium Xbred, fidj to 9 id; coarse Xbred, 6sd to 9ld; half wools, s*d to 9d; quarter wools, 4}d to 7d; pelts, 2id to lid. “Hides: Ox, 331 b. to 441 b., 4 7-8 d to ssd; ox, 45/52, 4 3-8 d to s|d; ox, 53/59, 4id to 6 l-8d; ox, 60/69, 5 5-8 d to 6id; ox, 701 b. and over, 6d to 7sd; cow, 33/39, 4d to 5 5-8 d; cow, 40/48, 3Jd to s£d; cow, 491 b. and over, 3d to Usd; kip, 25/32, 4 3-8 d to 6id; kip, 17/24, 4 5-8 d to 7id; yrlg., 11/16, 4 5-8 d to Sid; calf, 9/10, 5 l-8d to 8 3-8 d; calf, 6/8, 6d to 103 d; calf, 1/5, 3d (10.3 d).”
