Hockey in the Manawatu
WINS FOR UNIVERSITY AND BROADWAY University and Broadway both had wins in tho Manawatu Hockey Association’s senior A competition on Saturday. University’s win was at the expense of Phoenix, whom they defeated 3—2. Lawry was responsible for all tho winning team’s goals, and Guy for Phoenix’s. The umpires wero Messrs D. Wilton and F. McLachlan. The game was played on the College ground. Broadway defeated Woodville, 2 —o. Wallis and Hoare were the scorers. Messrs L. Martin and W. Hartnell had charge of the game. In the senior B competition. Broadway (5) beat United (1). Waller (3), Burrows and Lyons netted for the winners and Pliilp for tho losers. The umpires were Messrs L. Martin and D. Hoare. Woodville registered a 5—2 win over High School. Hudson (3) and M. Vow ell scored for the winners, and Kyle (2) for School. The umpires were Messrs R. H. Smith and W. D. Philp. United and Phoenix juniors drew, 3—3. I. Olliver (2) and Goldfinch netted for United, and Pohio, Cosgrove and McQueen for Phoenix. Messrs L. H. Rendle and I. H. Bennett were the umpires. High School beat Broadway I—o, Westwood being the scorer. The um : pires were Messrs R. H. Smith and I. 11. Bennett.
