STAPLEFORD FOUR-BALL AT HOKOWHITU GOOD ROUND BY O. H. WILLIAMS Except for B. and A. matches, Saturday at Hokowliitu was an off-day insofar as competitions were concerned. The weather was calm and the course was heavy, and the feature of tho golt was a fine round by O. H. Williams who was round in 71 to score decisively in aB. and A. Cup match. Going out he slipped strokes at the second, which is not an easy 4 under winter conditions, and at the eighth, but lie more than mado up for it with a birdie 3 at the third (382 yards) and an eagle 3 at the sixth (433 yards). Coming in he carded a 3 at tho tentn (311 yards), a 2 at the twelfth and another birdie at the sixteenth. He slipped two strokes and was in in 3G. Glendinning was dormy one and Clayton then ran down a long putt for the net 3 to keep the game alive. He played a great bunker shot at the nineteenth and was dead in three. Glendinning then holed a good putt for tho birdie 3 and the match. F. Guinness holed his second at the third (382 yards) during tho week-end. Dannevirke’s Wilson Cup team was to have played the holders at Hokowhitu during tho week-end but the prospect of two trips over the snow-covered Pahiatua Track did not find favour and the match was postponed. Johnnie Hapc, one of Dannevirke’s top men, camo through on Saturday and he played two good rounds at Hokowhitu. He was in good form, his game being sound in all departments and he appears to have regained all his old form. Stapleford Bogey. There was a big entry for the Stapleford bogey and the honours of the occasion were shared by W. Moffatt and A. Graham and A. M. Ongley and E. J. August. The leading scores were as under:—■ W. AWATAPU COURSE OFFICIAL BOGEY On Saturday players found their handicaps inadequate against the combined demands of the “Colonel” and “Old Man Winter.” H. Jackie and J. Kells wero the only players to register “credits” for the 18 holes. Leading scores were:— A Grade. J. Kells, 1 up. F. Ward, 4 down. L. de Cleene, 4 down. A. Ward, 4 down. R. Mace, 4 down. G. Ilight, 5 down. Kells, who carded a useful 80—10— 70, was heard to say what this might have been if those short putts had dropped. But then who can master the short putt at Awatapuf Amongst the hazards encountered during tho week-end was a well-trained specimen of the canine species.
