Master Farewelled

PALMERSTON NORTH BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL The opportunity was taken at the morning assembly at the Palmerston North Boys’ High School yesterday to bid farewell to Mr. R. W. Cumberworth, who has been appointed to a position in the Education Department’s Correspondence School in Wellington. The Boys’ High School expressed its regret at his leaving and its congratulations on his promotion by sfnging three choruses composed by Mr. Cumberworth and the rector (Mr. J. Murray) presented Mr. Cumberworth with the manuscript copy of the song, “ Nihil Boni Sine Lahore,” one of the choruses mentioned. Mr. Murray voiced the school’s appreciation of Mr. Cumberworth’s services, and its good wishes for his future. The bead prefect (A. Campbell) called for cheers which wero given in Mr. Cumberworth’s honour. .Mr. Cumberworth made a suitable response, expressing his regret at leaving the school where he had spent fivo happy years as a pupil and later 15 years as a master. Other presentations were an attache case and a wallet from tko first fifteen, of which Mr. Cumberworth was coach, a case of pipes from tho Kia Ora Club, of which he was a master, and a set of hair brushes from his special class, Form 4a. Yesterday afternoon members of tho staff were entertained at tea at College House by Mr. and Mrs. Murray, when the opportunity was taken to present to Mr. Cumberworth a fire screen and to Mr. E. J. Werry, who will also lafGr in tho month bo leaving, a barometer. Mr. Murray expressed the staff’s congratulations and good wishes to both gentlemen, and its regret at losing two loyal colleagues.
