Dairy Industry Wage Demands

CONFERENCE COMMENT Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 30. The hearing of the Dominion dairy industry dispute, which has been part heard in Conciliation Council, is to be resumed in Wellington on Monday. In reply to a question to-day, the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr. M. J. Reardon) said that his attention had been drawn to the comment made by the chairman, Mr. A. Morton, at the opening of tho National Dairy Conference in Wellington, that, in spite of assurances given by leaders of the Government, exorbitant wage demands were still being made in conciliation councils. Mr. Reardon said that in the case of the Dominion dairy dispute this was created by the employers early in February of this year in all the eight industrial districts throughout the Dominion. The law required that when a dispute was created tho respondents —in this instance the union—should file counter-proposals or a cross-citation. This was done by the union on March 30. Another point mentioned by Mr. Reardon was that the Dominion dairy dispute was still part heard, and that being so, was sub judico .The hearing of the dispute had been adjourned, and the date fixed for its resumption had been fixed for after tho conclusion of the National Dairy Conference to meet Hie convenience of tho employers’ representatives. Just as matters that were before tho courts were protected from comment by interested parties, there was also provision in tho I.C. and A. Act affording similar protection to conciliation councils.
