Stock Drinking Trough On Kimbolton Road

TO COAIMEMORATE HITCHMAN’S CORNER Estimates of tho cost of erecting the proposed stock drinking-trough on Kimbolton Road to commemorate Hitchman 's corner were considered by yesterday ’s meeting of the committee of tho Feilding branch of the Farmers’ Union. One tender for the building of a concrete trough, according to the dimensions suggested by the union, asked for £3l for the job, the trough to hold approximately 500 gallons of water. Discussing tho position, it was suggested that it would cost an additional £3O or moro to connect the trough up with the Feilding borough water supply, as a pipe would have to be laid across the Kimbolton highway and this would necessitate digging a trench across the road. On top of this would be the plumbing costs. As the Women’s Division of the union had first suggested the idea of a water trough to commemorate Hitchman’s corner, it was agreed to refer tho matter to the branch for further consideration. Aleantime the Farmers’ Union is to approach the Oroua County Council with a suggestion that it undertake to find the cost of making the necessary connection between the trough and tho Feilding borough water main. It was considered that when first suggested tho cost of tho proposed trough would not be outside possibly £l2 or £ls and that possibly tho Women’s Division would be obliged to revise its conception of the idea of marking Hitchman’s corner by erecting a water trough. The chairman (Mr. H. D. Richardson) stated that Air. H. E. Hocken had intimated to him that he would be prepared to give a donation towards the cost of the trough.
