Provision of Water For Stock on the Road

IMPROVING HIGHWAYS AFFECT POSITION Drawing attention to the elimination of watering places for live stock being driven along highways, by the reconstruction of main roads, Air. D. L. Younger, speaking at yesterday’s meeting of the Feilding branch of the Farmers’ Union, said that he felt that the Alain Highways Board and local bodies had quite overlooked the importance of making provision for watering places for live stock. He drew attention to what had happened along the Makino Road which was now sealed for a considerable distance, and said that maiiy of the one-time watering places had been eliminated aud to-day there was hardly a watering place left between AVaituna West and Feilding along this length of highway. He considered it a serious matter and some provision should have been made to meet the needs of stock being driven along the road. Other speakers agreed and instanced the likelihood of the new bridge on Reid’s Line doing away with the access of stock to the Makino Stream and also the possibility of the now Kiwitea bridge closing access by stock to the Kiwitea Stream. It was agreed that the attention of the authorities should bo drawn to the position.
