Writing Music in the Clouds
CONDUCTOR EN ROUTE TO SYDNEY LONDON', April 13. Working on a musical score which he hopes to have completed by the time he reaches Sydney, Professor G. Szell, eminent conductor of the Scottish orchestra, Glasgow, will while away most of the time composing music on his fly-ing-boat trip to Australia, which commences next Sunday (April 16) by Imperial Airways airliner from Southampton. Professor Szell, who will be accompanied by his wife, has been engaged by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation for a three months concert season to take place in Sydney and Melbourne. This will be his second Australian broadcasting season, the first having taken place just a year ago. Professor Szell, in addition to being conductor of the Scottish orchestra, Glasgow, is permanent guest conductor of the Residentie Orchestra, The Hague, Holland, from where he has just returned. In the capacity of guest conductor he has played in countries all over the world.
