Owing to the lack of any indication of real winter weather approaching, work at the Homer Tunnel is still being carried on continuously by three shifts. It was recently decided by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. K. Semple, after consultation with engineers of the department and the contractors, that the work should bo continued during the winter by one shift, with the men under protection from avalanches all the time, but so far it has not been found necessary to change to winter conditions Owing to the prevalence of influenza iniong the tunnellers, progress during -he past few weeks has been slightly lower than that previously made, but the work has not been seriously hampered. It is impossible yet to say when the change-ovrr to winter conditions will take place, as this depends entirely on the weather.
