A. and P. Association Printing

(To the Editor.) Sir,—Having obtained a copy of the prize list for the forthcoming 37th National Dairy Show in Palmerston North, I was very much surprised to find that our A. and P. Association sends the work of printing same out of this town. I wonder what is their reason. 1 always thought these shows were for ttie of helping town and country alike and if by sending their printing work out of tho town they think that is helping the town, well it is a funny way of doing things. They look to the town people to support them, the business people to take advertising space, and then forward the cash for same out of Palmerston North.

Having been connected with the printing trade in both Islands for a number of years, I am sure that this is the only A. and P. Association '‘that does not get its printing done in the town where its shows are held. The reason cannot be that high-class printing is not turned out in this town, for printing work from all parts of New Zealand is turned out every day in this town. Their plants are as up-to-date as you will find anywhere, and as far as skilled craftsmen are concerned they rank second to none in New Zealand. I have spoken to several business people and also some members of the A. and P. Association and they were surprised when told that this work was done out of town, and several have stated that they will ventilate the matter at the proper time. I notice that entries close Friday, May 26, and the show opens on June 10 so that gives local printers plenty of time to do the job and do it well, provided of course absurd conditions of tender, which no other A. and P. Association ever asks of its printers, are not included.—l am, etc., LOCAL INDUSTRY. Marjory Little (Hawera) 1, Joan Isbister (Palmerston North) 2, June Reid (Hawera) 3; 17 entries.
