REPORT ON YEAR’S ACTIVITIES The 37th annual report on the activities of the year to be presented at the annual meeting of the Feilding A. and P. Association states as follows: The 35th annual Show w r as again held under ideal weather conditions, and the support generally was most encouraging. Entries constituted a record for the association—a marked increase showing in most sections. A total of 915 entries were received. The provision of sufficient penning accommodation in the sheep section is becoming quite a problem aDd many entries have to take outside pens. The pig classes were another special feature of the show, there being 224 entries. The home industry classes were not so large as wo would like to see them, but all the same a very attractive display w r as made. Thanks are accorded all who assisted the association.

Finance: A profit of £49 19s 4d has been made on the year’s work after Writing off £2lO depreciation. This year depreciation was at the rate of 71 per cent compared with 5 per cent, in other years, thereby reducing the profit by approximately £7O. Income shows an increase of £2O in the subscription account, general entry fees increased by £53, the side-show space, etc., by approximately £lO. Donations w T ere also larger by £l4, and the ram fair returned a profit of £196 16s 3d as against £lB6 15s 9d last year. Lawn and gate takings showed a decline of £2O. This year the farm account showed a considerable reduction in profit due to the fall in farm produce, the profit from this source beiug £9B 10s as compared with £173 19s lOd iu 1938 and £223 in 1937. The weight judging and pony competitions were also down £l3; various other accounts were practically on a par with the previous show'. Prize money to the value of £785 6s was paid out (the 1938 sum being £777 8s 2d). Show day wages and expenses were £3lB 8s 4d, being slightly less than last year; £93 15s was expended on maintenance, aud £74 in permanent improvements and new work. Bonus and subscriptions and miscellaneous accounts showed a reduction of over £SO. The night show created a loss of about £5, but was nevertheless very popular with the public. The balance-sheet shows the association to be iu a sound financial position. The life members’ reserve account is in credit to the value of £320, and the general account at the Bank of New South Wales has a credit of £257 9s Bd, being an increase of "£240 during the past 12 months. Sundry amounts outstanding and included In the various accounts total £163 10s, but this is considered recoverable (already £77 9s has been repaid). The farm is stocked for the coming season and all stock paid for. ing the committee records with deep regret the death of many valued members of the association, including Messrs J. D. Hocking, S. Gray, W. Lumsden, D. H. Kilgour, Edmund Goodbehero and J. W. Bramwell. The last two gentlemen were officers of the association for many years, Mr. Bramwell having been a past president and the association’s hon. treasurer for a very long period, and Air. Goodbehere also officiating as hon. treasurer and committee man. To all the bereaved relatives, the committee extends its sincere sympathy in. their bereavement. ‘ ‘ For the past year Aiessrs Buist, Fitzpatrick, Smithers, AlcDowall, Hausmanu and Fieldhouse (in lieu of Mr. P. G. Stevens, who left the district) officiated as town members of the general committee and retire in accordance with the rules, but are eligible for reelection. I again wish to thank all the committeemen for the help they have given me during my term of office as president. With their combined assistance the work of the committee has gone along smoothly and in the best interests of the association. I feel sure that my successor (Mr. W. G. Booth) will receive the whole-hearted support of the committee in the advancement of the objects of the association,” the report concluded.
