Manawatu Co-operative Women’s Guild
ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Manawatu Co-operative Women’s Guild was held in the Y.W.C.A. rooms on Tuesday last. Mrs. S. Ilarrod, vice-president, presided over a large attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Manning, Pow'es and Horsefall. Two new members, Mesdames J. Brown and Diggens, were welcomed, also two visitors from Scotland and Australia. Presenting her annual report, the secretary stated:— “First, I must mention how sorry all members are at the loss sustained in the departure of our late president, Mrs. O. Niederer, who has gone to live in Auckland. The work and time she spent in the interests of the guild and co-opera-tive society will long be remembered. Mrs. Niederer went away quite satisfied knowing that the progress the movement had made during the past three years in this city was due to the cooperation of members of the management committee, shop staffs, and cooperators, and although not here in person I am sure she is with us in thought. I am sure I am voicing the desire of all in wishing Mrs. Niederer every happiness and success in her new home.
“During the year 23 meetings have been held and thanks are due to speakers who have given their time to offer addresses on such interesting and educational subjects. Thanks are also due to members who have led discussions on various subjects during the year. To Mrs. Linda Bennett special thanks are due for conducting a class on public speaking. Several social afternoons were held, including the guild’s third birthday in February, which also marked the diamond wedding of an esteemed member in Mrs. Jacobs. Thanks are also due to the artists assisting at social functions, to the hostesses and all who have made donations for competitions. The children’s ball held in December proved a huge success, 600 children attending besides parents and friends.” Mrs. Robertson personally thanked Mrs. Mason (treasurer) and Mrs. Niederer for assistance given her as secretary, specially Mrs. Scott, who had deputised in her absence, the press, for courtesy shown in publication of activities, and in conclusion said sho trusted the coming year would be more successful than the last with an ever increasing membership for the guild and co-operative movement generally to prove they were the promoters of peace and good will, which is the society’s objective through “The woman with the basket and
Consumers’ Co-operative Society.” The adoption of the balance-sheet was deferred until next meeting owing to the absence of the treasurer The election of officers resulted: President, Mrs. S. Harrod; vice-president, Mrs. Kennedy; committee of five, Mesdames F. Robertson, Foster, Mason, O. C. King and Wolf.
