From the Hub
DEAR COGS, This is the Hub calling after a long absence from the Page. But you must not think I have not been following very closely all that you have been doing. You might ask, what has the Hub been doing? Well, I have been away on a quest in search of “Aladdin’s Cave.” Did you know that it was in New Zealand? Now I am not going to tell you where it is because I hope some of the Big Family may be able to tell me. I travelled many days up hill and down dale before I came to the magic sign that pointed the way. And then there was a mighty river to be crossed in a flat-bottomed boat propelled by the current before we came to the path leading to the cave. Even then there was strenuous walking over quivering earth, often bathed in hot steam, with many wonders on the way. At last we found the zig-zag path leading into the cave which we followed right down into the earth until we came to a pool, the water in which was the colour of opals. There we stood absolutely speechless, it was all so beautiful, above us the dome all the colours of the rainbow, and looking back the opening fringed with lovely tree ferns. After thoughtfully wending our way to the entrance one of the party who had remained behind, sang the lovely song ‘ ‘ Trees, ’ ’ every word of which could be heard, although sung very quietly. We were very sad to turn our backs on this Fairyland. Now the most important thought in our minds is “Mother’s Day.” Have you all planned some pleasant surprise for Mother to-morrow? How about taking over one of those tiresome jobs that fall to her lot, making her favourite dish, a little gift of flowers or some little thing you have made yourselves? And of course each and every member of the Big Family will be on the best Cog behaviour. All my love, Your friend, THE HUB.
