Dispersal of Heatherlea Jerseys

TOP PRICE WAS 100 GUINEAS. Buyers from the Manawatu, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki and Canterbury districts were present on Wednesday at the unreserved dispersal sale of Mr. H. J. Lancaster's Heatherlea Jersey herd, which was conducted on his farm, at Fairfield, Levin, by Messrs Wright, Stephenson t and Company, and Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd. Competition was fairly keen throughout and of the 61 head offered, 49 were sold at the comparatively high average price of 23f J guineas. Passings were mainly yearling bulls, on which the vendor exercised »the right of a slight reserve. 1 The sale was regarded as one of the most important to be conducted for some time. No herd in the Dominion | v lias a more uniformly high standard of j 1 type, distinctive for finish and with capacity for high breeding, than j Heatherlea. A further important fea- 1 r lure is that these cattle have for many I fc years been bred to a definite plan, and their type has placed Mr. Lancaster 1 among the most successful breeders in f the Southern Hemisphere. In no herd in the Dominion has the 1 influence of the immortal sire, * Majesty's Fox (Imp.) been better preserved than at Heatherlea. Infusions of Soumise Majesty (Imp.) have also 1 been given the herd with marked sue- £ cess. The cows which came before *= those present all bore the stamp of 1 Majesty's Fox cows of many years ago, £ with their able dairy heads, huge long t and deep bodies, lovely flat dairy bone 1 and magnificent vessels. In addition, t Mr. Lancaster has bred more level backlines, with neater tail setting and more style and breed character than j was found in the Majesty’s Fox cows J of yesterday. A very valuable feature j of this strain is longevity and sound- ; ness. Moreover, Mr. Lancaster has paid . particular attention to individuality and j this, coupled with practical application, j ‘ has given the very successful results f the herd has obtained for many years. Mr. Lancaster s show record is indeed an enviable one, ranging from a covet- { ed Boyal championship and a dead-heat £ in the Manawatu £SOO C.O.R. stakes, which was a Dominion-wide event, to a . long succession of prizes too numerous ! to enumerate. 1 Top price of the sale was paid for the bull, Heatherlea Royalist, one of , most valuable proved sires ever offered, which brought 100 guineas. The pur- ; chaser was Mrs. J. Larsen (Feilding). Other prices for bulls, together with their purchasers, were:—Rising 2-year-old, 45 guineas, Mr. W.
