Battleships for Duty in Pacific Area RESULT OF RECENT CONFERENCE United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. LONDON, May 10. Writing in the Daily Telegraph, Mr. Heetor Bywater says he understands that as a result of the recent defence negotiations between Britain, Australia and New Zealand, British battleships have been ear-marked for service in the Pacific in tho event of emergency. The number and names of the vessels cannot be disclosed, but the composition of the force has been calculated in view of the balance of power in the eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Well-informed naval authorities believe that any threat to Now Zealand and Australian territory has practically disappeared.
