FORDELL AUTUMN CATTLE FAIR The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. (Inc. in Eng.), report: “A yarding of 700 head came forward to advertised numbers at the Fordell Fair on Tuesday. The cattle yarded to some extent showed the effects of the dry weather experienced in the district, the yarding this year comprising mostly of young cattle, the usual quota of fat cows not being yarded as in previous fairs. There was an excellent attendance of buyers from outside districts with strong competition from a number of Eltham buyers, who purchased practically the whole entry of 20-months cattle. We can report a total clearance at auction, vendors being prepared to meet a market which was on a par with recent cattle sales. Quotations: Fat and forward P.A. Hereford cows, £4 3s to £5 17s; 2s-yr. Hereford steers, £4 14s to £ss 3d; 20-mths. P.A. steers, £2 10s, £2 12s 6d, £3 2s, £3 ss, £3 6s, £3 9s, £3 10s, £3 13s; 20-mths. heifers, £2 3s, £2 ss, £2 6s; store cows, low condition, 25s to 31s; weaner steers, to 325; weaner heifers, to 265."
