Palmerston North Literary And Debating Society
TOAST LIST AND DEBATE Mr. T. C. Watson presided at tho weekly meeting of tho Palmerston North Literary and Debating Society last evening. The first part of the programme comprised a toast list, the speakers being Messrs. C. Richardson, J. S. llornblow, G. Pratt, T. C. Watson, A. C. Philpott, Mrs. L. Bennett. Tho adjudicator was Mr. J J. O’Shea, Mr. Watson winning the King Cup. Tho debate following was: “An extensive immigration policy is essential for the future development of New Zealand.” Tho speakers were Messrs. H. J. King, L. M. Crawford and Mrs. E. L. Christian, Messrs. A. C. Philpott, McArley and Miss E. Bird. Mrs. Christian won the Mrs. S. M. Carlton Medal. A silver medallion presented by Mr. A. E. Wright for highest marks in delivery was won for the first time by Miss Bird. Thanks were conveyed to the adjucvloator by Mr. Philpott.
