British Drama League Re-constituted
MANAWATU AREA TO CONSIDER NEW PROPOSALS j
Some objections having been raised to the organisation of tho British Drama League (Npw Zealand branch) as constituted, on the grounds of excessive cost of administration, elaborate methods of voting; that areas had little opportunity of expressing ideas about tho work and development of the league, when this responsibility should rest on the areas, council meetings have been held recently to revise tho constitution. At these meetings Manawatu area was represented by Mrs. L. Bennett and also Dr. lan Fraser, of Levin. The main points of difference in the revised constitution are that it provides for individual membership instead of groups; the complete de-centralisation of control and autonomy within area;* central co-ordination to be in the hands of an executive officer (at present being done voluntarily by Mrs. A. M. Goulding). At the annual meeting of the Manawatu area on Tuesday next it is hoped to put Manawatu on a sound basis and an attendance of all interested in the promotion of community drama is desired.
Tentative arrangements have been made to hold the North Island elimination festival in Palmerston North in October. The venue for the South Island has not been decided but the finals will take place in Timaru the third week in October.
