National Party in Manawatu Electorate

ANNUAL MEETING HELD Mr. A. Campbell, president, presided over an excellent attendance of delegates at the annual meeting of the New Zealand National Party in the Manawatu electorate held on Tuesday evening. The president expressed his appreciation at the large assemblage of members present. Thd year’s activities were reviewed in the annual report and the congratulations of the executive extended to all branches and workers in the party’s cause. The result gained in the return of the National Party’s candidate, Hon. J. G. Cobbe, at the general election had in no small measure been due to the wholehearted co-operation of all branches with headquarters. Special thanks were paid to tho women’s organisation which, under the guidance of Mrs. J. Williamson, had rendered special service throughout the electorate. The helpful co-operation of the junior section was also appreciated. The chairman added his personal thanks to the committees, and in particular the women’s organisation and tho executive committee members and the secretary for their splendid efforts. The president, referring to the future, said he could not help thinking that the organisation would be called on sooner than was generally expected to again light for the party and the return of sound government. For that purpose he urged all branches and members to keep their organisation in a state of activity. Mr. E. W. Barnett, of the Dominion Council of the party, congratulated the Manawatu electorate on the splendid financial results it had achieved. Dominion headquarters was deeply appreciative of the work that had been done. The report was adopted. Prior to calling for the election of officers, Mr. Campbell intimated that he would not bo seeking re-election as president. He appealed for recognition of tho younger members of the party, stating that th light was theirs and it was only right that executive responsibilities should be placed in their hands. Regret at Mr. Campbell’s decision was expressed by several speakers, who paid a tribute to his work. Officers elected are as follow;—President, Mr. Q. O. Wilson, Bulls; vicepresident, Mr. A. Campbell; honorary treasurer, Mr. V. E. Smith; delegate to divisional conference, Mr. Q. O. Wilson; delegates to the Dominion conference, Messrs. Q. Wilson and A. Campbell; finance committee, Messrs. C. E. Taylor, W. E. Fowler, J. Linklater, B. McLeod, E. W. Barnett and L. B. Wall, with officers ex officio and the president of the women’s organisation. Tho electorate executive consists of the chairman and secretary of each branch, together with the members of tho finance committee.
